Couscous Hice is a family-run Moroccan restaurant on East Colfax in Denver — the founder’s parents’ place. 4.9 stars across 174 reviews. The kind of food people write paragraphs about. And in the summer of 2026 it was considering closing for lack of customers.

The first Cairn scan explained it in one afternoon. For “moroccan restaurant” the restaurant ranked #1 across most of Denver — ahead of places with ten times its reviews. Google already believed in it. But its profile listed exactly one category, the generic word “Restaurant,” so for “mediterranean restaurant,” “middle eastern food,” “halal” — the searches with actual volume — it didn’t exist. It was winning a search almost nobody makes and invisible to everyone else. The fix took ten minutes and cost nothing.

That pattern — excellent, trusted, and invisible for a reason you could fix before lunch — turned out not to be rare. The second business scanned was a perfect-5.0 cleaning company that owned zero points of its own map. Cairn exists to find that, say it plainly, and keep watching.

The name

A cairn is the stack of stones hikers build to mark the true trail where the path disappears. Follow a real one and you get home. Follow a fake one — and people build them, carelessly or for a joke — and you end up somewhere you shouldn’t be. The founder once followed a set of fake cairns onto a mountain pass that nearly killed him.
